Three recommendations...
1. Buy a mat to go under the treadmill. I purchased the Supermats Heavy Duty P.V.C. Mat for Longer Treadmills from Amazon. This reduces the noise made with each step. My son's room is directly above my office and he says he doesn't hear me on the treadmill when I'm on it.
2. Buy a yoga ball to sit on for those times you want to sit rather than walk. I bought the Incline Fit Anti-Burst Yoga Exercise Ball with Pump and Ball Base, Black from Amazon. While there are days when I can walk 5-6 hours, eventually my feet get sore and I want (need) to sit down. There are wheels at the front of the treadmill to help you move it, but it's impractical to to do so regularly because of the treadmill's size (I don't really have a place to store it that's out of the way) and you have to disconnect the console. I place the yoga ball on the treadmill when I want to sit (I don't use the nice base that comes with the exercise ball because I'm worried it might damage the belt... and I also make sure that the plastic plug doesn't make contact with the belt) and go from cardio to core work :)
3. Make sure to buy some silicone lubricant for the belt... it requires lubrication every 50 hours or so. I bought LifeSpan 100% Silicone Treadmill Lubricant for less than $129 and it will last a LONG time given the size of the bottle.
I couldn't be happier with this purchase!!!
I walk 8 hours a day 5 days per week.
Now the not so great.
I had to take the shroud off and then buy a high speed fan to set in front of the motor to keep it from overheating.
I contacted service and they said it was the controller board. They sent me a new one right away. BUT I had to pay 40.00 for customs.
Finally I bought a variable speed computer fan -- one that plugs into the wall -- problem solved.
The walking experience is great. The controller works really well. The build quality us very good.
If the motor did not overheat I would give this a five for sure
I could've saved a lot of money by just buying a regular treadmill and modifying it myself, which is what I would've done if I had known how loud this one was going to be.
I have been using a stand-up desks for several years now, but really wanted to add a walking element. The treadmill fits underneath my desk, it is efficient and quiet. The only thing that needs improving is the control module - it's extremely basic and stuck in 1998 as far as functionality and user friendliness is concerned. In the age of the smart phone and the tablet, this is really quite unacceptable.
But apart from these niggles, and I am aware that this is a first world problem, the treadmill works well. I'd buy it again/
-------------------------
After 20 years of a desk job I needed to make a change. About 10 years ago I had a standup desk for a while, so I decided to ditch my chair again and go back to a standing desk. A few months later, after lots of research, I decided to add a Lifespan TR1200-DT3 treadmill. Product reviews were great, Amazon had the best price at the time and the free shipping sealed the deal.
Well, after 2 months I must say I'm extremely impressed with the treadmill. It took a few weeks to get used to working while walking but now it feels natural. I'm averaging between 2.5 - 3 hours a day at 1.6 mph. The unit is so quiet I can talk on the phone. The loudest noise is my footsteps.
I did recently have an issue with a thumping noise. I contacted Lifespan through their website and they called me back within 30 minutes to set up a service call. About 30 minutes after that I heard from the service contractor and we made an appointment. 2 days later my treadmill was repaired (the factory installed the wrong drive belt). It's hard to beat that for customer service!
